SAVE IRAQ!
War is the worst obscenity any government can inflict upon people! It is almost impossible to grasp the full dimension of the evil contained in the intent to declare war on any people, guilty or innocent. Such an act is the most complete repudiation of God that we as human creatures could ever manage. God is love! St. John says so plainly, and Jesus revealed so clearly when he “pitched his tent among us.” God’s love is manifest to us through God’s creative power. All of the universe, our world, and each and every human person are loved into existence by God. To destroy any human is to destroy God!!!
I am writing to oppose US military action against Iraq! In recent weeks, President Bush, members of Congress, and administration officials have threatened an invasion of Iraq. Now is the time for diplomacy, not expanding the war on terrorism.
The price already paid by the good people of Iraq under eleven years of sanctions has been enormous; hundreds of thousands dead, an economy in ruins, destruction of the infrastructure, preventable and curable diseases spreading and killing due to a lack of supplies, and total isolation of Iraq’s professionals. To now target Iraq within the broad immoral sweep of the war on terrorism will only create more suffering and violence.
Punishing the Iraqi people for the immoral and corrupt actions of a government (Saddam Hussein) is an insurmountable crime against humanity. For instance, Osama Bin Laden killed thousands of innocent lives in New York City, like the US government is doing in Iraq. Both are equally wrong to kill innocent lives or for that matter any life! Expanding war and violence in the Middle East will only further erode the US’s credibility as a good guy rooting out evil. No matter what spin our government puts on it, this war is no different than the Crusades! For any government to invade any other in the name of God is morally bankrupt!
We must find another way away from war and death, one towards true and lasting peace, which is formed through equal and fair relationships. This is the time to show the true spirit of strength in the American people through principled negotiations. It is not a time for ultimatums, threats and war.
It is in my humble observation that we are in danger of losing our souls here in America through listening to our immoral government, corrupt media, and greedy corporations. They are not God; they are the false prophets, which continue to lie to us. The truth is in God! While the US has become a “superpower”, and are clearly the richest nation in all of history, (at least 10% of Americans), we must begin to ask ourselves at what price we have achieved this? It is past time for us to face the question Jesus posed; What does it profit anyone if you gain the whole world but suffer the loss of your soul? Money power, like military power, is not the last word for a truly awakened and enlightened citizenry.
Tell President Bush and your members of Congress, NOT to widen the war into Iraq. Pray !
God Bless the World!
