NUCLEAR WEAPONS
“The realization that there is a spark of the Divine in every human soul draws together people of all races, all creeds, all nations, all classes. That is why war is evil, and social injustice unendurable, why religion is incomplete without service,” Elizabeth Gray Vining.
President Bush has declared 2002, and the years to come as years of war, violence, death, and destruction. Bush has chosen the path of evil, rather than making a strong, morally-sound stand in favor of peace and God.
While the patriotic nationalist fervor continues to be stoked, the budget for weapons of mass destruction in the U.S. has gone dramatically up. The Department of Energy has begun the process of rebuilding the Nuclear Weapons Complex. The Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee has started a ten year, $4 billion modernization of Y-12. These modernization plans include a build-up of the nuclear arsenal of mini-nukes. These weapons would be built to be used in cities in countries that Bush wants to bomb, killing millions of innocent civilians.
Y-12 is the last full-scale nuclear weapons production facility in the U.S. With unique weapons manufacturing capabilities, Y-12 is responsible for the thermonuclear subassembly for all U.S. nuclear weapons. Y-12 is currently building parts to upgrade and extend the life of the W-87 (MX missile warhead). The new Y-12 is expected to play a key manufacturing role in producing mini-nukes.
As a nation, as we act to make the world safer and better, let us not become the evil (like Bush) that we deplore (terrorism). All weapons of mass destruction, such as nuclear are weapons of suicide for most of the earth. Bush, while fanning your fears with this so-called “war on terrorism” is proposing to destroy the world through global domination. His vision is to destroy people in several countries including, but not limited to, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, while also destroying the environment and democracy as we know it today. Iraq, Iran, and North Korea don’t even have any nuclear warheads, while the U.S. has over 10,000 nuclear weapons of mass destruction. Who is keeping an eye on Bush’s itchy trigger finger? For a country who has the most weapons of mass destruction, we should have no fears of potential enemies created by our political whores. Politics in the U.S. has become a whores game, except that whores have more moral integrity!
The Arab countries have had a proposal on the table for more than a decade to make the Middle East a nuclear free zone. Guess what? The U.S. won’t support it, because Israel does have nuclear weapons. Israel is the only country in the Middle East that does have weapons of mass destruction. I fear Israel (Sharon) and the U.S. (Bush), rather than Saddam Hussein who doesn’t have a pot to piss in these days or any days. Most of all, the corrupt American politician has no guts or “balls” to stand up to Israel’s powerful and immoral lobby. What has happened to following God’s creative and loving laws, rather than crazy, selfish, immoral and hateful man’s laws? Do you follow Bush or God? It must be one or the other, you can’t have both and remain loyal to your God. I prefer to follow God first and always! As Gandhi once said, “an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind”.
The Bush Administration is rapidly pursuing the development of a new generation of nuclear weapons (mini-nukes), and strategic delivery systems. What is really driving Bush’s foreign policies? Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, and TRW spent $35 million lobbying in 1997-98, and another $6 million in campaign contributions in 1997-2000. Not surprisingly, the U.S. nuclear weapons budget has gone way up, with no end in sight. Our major corporations profit enormously from death and destruction. Nuclear weapons are only for global domination (power), and are only for American corporations (greed). These weapons of war are built by immoral governmental and corporate “bloodsucking” leaders. God help their souls!
The logic and assumptions underlying the Bush Administration’s hostility towards arms control, and its infatuation with nuclear weapons deserve vigorous public scrutiny and debate. Bush has expansive plans to revitalize U.S. nuclear forces, and all the elements that support them, within a so-called “New Triad” of capabilities that combine nuclear and conventional offensive strikes with missile defenses and nuclear weapons infrastructure. The Bush Administration is actually planning to retain the potential of as many as 15,000 nuclear weapons.
This is insane, immoral, and in direct violation (illegal) of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Treaty’s objective was intended to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, and to further the goal of achieving general and complete disarmament. In addition, the World Court stated that the notions of “threat” and “use” of force under Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter stand together in the sense that if the Use of force is illegal, the threat to use such force will like-wise be illegal. Thus nuclear deterrence doctrine, which entails the threat to use massive retaliation to prevent an attack is implicitly illegal.
Even 61 former Generals and Admirals made the following statement;
“We, military professionals, who have devoted our lives to the national security of our country and of our people are convinced that the continuing existence of nuclear weapons in the armories of the nuclear powers, and the ever present threat of acquisition of these weapons by others constitute a peril to global peace and security, and to the safety and survival of the people we are dedicated to protect.”
The Bush Administration’s posture of avoiding further binding legal constraints on the U.S. nuclear arsenal, while pursuing the reinvigoration of the U.S. nuclear weapons production complex and the development of new nuclear weapons will only be viewed by most nations as a blatant breach of the “good faith” negotiating standards under the treaty, and tantamount to a U.S. “breakout” from the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
We must keep in mind that current and proposed nuclear deterrence doctrine is irresponsible, illegal, and immoral. As I’ve mentioned above, current doctrine requires the continued deployment of nuclear weapons, which flouts the World Court Advisory Opinion and Treaty obligations by the nuclear weapon states to eliminate their nuclear arsenals. The doctrine also risks accidental launch, and it provokes the spread of nuclear weapons. It stimulates constant pressure to improve nuclear arsenals. Plus, it maintains an unstable, hostile attitude between nuclear possessor Nations, and inhibits cooperation in promoting true peace and security.
In addition, the nuclear deterrence doctrine causes immense health and major environmental damage during development and production of nuclear weapons. Then, what about the nuclear waste? Bush decided to dump it on the good citizens of Nevada – let them suffer and die! Who really cares? The ceaseless environmental contamination by the Y-12 nuclear facility is almost incalculable. Recently, Y-12 has been cited at least 13 times for environmental violations, polluting the air we breathe, the soil and water that all life, especially humans depends on for survival. One million pounds of toxic mercury were dumped into the East Fork Poplar Creek, and released as mercury vapor. The Department of Energy has reported that between 1991 and 1998, 244 pounds of uranium were released into the open air. Traces of highly enriched uranium have been found in the surface soils of the predominately African-American Scarboro community in Western Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Cadmium, Chromium, Arsenic, Uranium, Lead, Beryllium, Lithium, PCBs, and volatile organics are just some of the hazardous materials used and released upon humans and animals from the Y-12 plant.
This is our government rapidly not only killing millions of people in other parts of the world, but also killing us. Health care costs are skyrocketing due to the dramatic rise in illnesses in our country contributed mainly to the rapid deterioration of our God-created, beautiful environment. We are allowing our ignorant and immoral government to kill us poor folk, because we do not stand up and loudly voice our opposition to the destruction of the earth and humanity through the building up of nuclear weapons, and the massive environmental damage. I call for a grassroots, non-violent REVOLUTION to end the madness in the White House, Congress, and even the Supreme Court. We must use our people power to rally, demonstrate, and practice non-violent civil disobedience against nuclear weapons, war, violence, and the destruction of the world.
Join God and myself, as well as hundreds of other brave heroes, as we enter a moral fight to stop the evil bomb building in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. God wants sheer numbers of moral people to interrupt business as usual at the Y-12 nuclear complex, and send a powerful message, which must be impossible to ignore, that we the people only want peace and love with all our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Everyone must do their part. We are up against evil, major corporations, which profit from making weapons of mass destruction. They continue to corrupt our once great political system, by making huge contributions to morally weak and ignorant politicians to keep the death money flowing their way. We must, all of us, God-fearing and moral people call attention to the fact that continued production of nuclear weapons at Oak Ridge, Tennessee is a huge violation of international law, as well as a sin against our God. It also fuels the global arms race, and undermines the U.S. non-proliferation policy. Get informed, then act morally by connecting to www.stopthebombs.org..
As followers of the one God, we only have one morally-just option. We must say NO to U.S. evil global domination and NO to all nuclear weapons of mass destruction. Now is the time to embrace your God with love of enemy and neighbor. Follow the great example set forth by Jesus of Nazareth! Join in on the good fight against evil corporations and government policies, that murder and destroy all of God’s creation.
God Bless the World!
