Nothing but FACTS!

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God.  Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be...amidst the simple beauty of nature,” Anne Frank.

Safeguarding the Earth, and all the living organisms, especially human life has become increasingly more difficult, especially with President “killer” Bush leading the carnage and raping towards dangerous destruction of God’s creations.  The people, plants and animals, and all the natural systems on which all life depends on is in immediate peril, especially as the immoral rich continue down the path of greed and sin.

Below, I’ll present you nothing but the true facts of the emergency in our country today.

* Over 40% of all tropical forests have been destroyed and another acre is lost every second of every day.  Contact:  www.therainforest.com

* Each year, humankind adds six to eight billion tons of carbon to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels and destroying forests, pumping up the concentration of greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.  This is an effect that will raise temperatures by three to ten degrees by the year 2050.

* While the U.S. makes up only 5% of the world’s population, we produce 72% of all hazardous waste and consume 33% of the world’s paper.

* Worldwide, thousands of pounds of plutonium are being produced, used and stored under conditions of inadequate security.  Using current technology, only two pounds of plutonium is required to make a nuclear device.

* The annual catch in 11 of the world’s 15 major fishing regions has declined, and in seven of those the catch has shrunk by 20% or more.

* Taxpayers will lose over one billion dollars over the next decade as the Forest Service spends more money wasted on building logging roads and preparing commercial timber sales than it makes on selling the timber.  Stupidity, Ms. Gale Norton!

* Taxpayer subsidies for logging our great Alaskan rainforest have been averaging over $30 million annually in recent years.

* Mining companies are allowed to buy our public lands for less than five dollars an acre, and they pay absolutely zero royalties on the gold and other minerals they “steal” from Americans.  This taxpayer giveaway, combined with the cost of massive environmental damage and clean-up amounts to a billion dollars every year.

* Grazing has led to soil erosion, watershed destruction and ruin of wildlife habitat on millions of acres of our public lands.  Every year, taxpayers lose up to $500 million underwriting this harmful activity.

* As many as 64,000 people nationwide die prematurely from heart and lung disease aggravated by air pollution.

* More than 100 million Americans live in urban areas where the air is officially classified by the EPA as unsafe to breathe.

* In many urban areas, children are steadily exposed to high levels of pollutants, increasing the risk of chronic lung disease, cell damage and respiratory illnesses.

* Dioxin and other persistent pollutants that are released into the air accumulate in our waterways, wildlife, food supply and human bloodstreams.  These poisons cause cancer and reproductive disorders in human beings and other animal species.

* Millions of pounds of toxic chemicals, like lead, mercury and pesticides, pour into our waterways each year contaminating wildlife, seafood and drinking water.

*One-half of our nation’s lakes and one-third of our rivers are too polluted to be completely safe for swimming and fishing.

* Raw sewage, poison runoff and other pollution have caused more than 22,000 beach closings or advisories since 1988.

* We are losing once pristine national treasures, like the gorgeous Everglades, where I lived for four years.  In addition, we’re losing the magnificent Lake Superior from my home State of Michigan, and the Columbia River System.  We’re losing them to toxic pollution, chemical spills, development, and diversion of natural freshwater flows.

* All but one species of the marvelous ocean-going salmon in the Pacific Northwest face a growing risk of extinction throughout most of their range, due to habitat degradation and over fishing.

* The U.S. is responsible for almost 25% of the world’s total energy consumption.  We use nearly one million gallons of oil every two minutes of every day.

* The energy currently wasted each year by U.S. cars, homes and appliances is almost twice the amount of energy that could be extracted annually from oil and gas reserves in Alaska and the U.S. outer continental shelf.

* We could cut our nation’s energy consumption by 45% by the year 2030 through the use of energy efficiency and more renewable energy sources.  In the process, we would create 773,000 new jobs and save consumers over $1 trillion by 2010.

* When just 1% of America’s 140 million car owners tune up their cars, we eliminate nearly a billion pounds of carbon dioxide, which is the key cause of global warming!

* Each year, up to 2.2 billion pounds of pesticides are used in the U.S., which amounts to eight pounds for every woman, man, and child.

* A Natural Resources Defense Council study found that pesticide use can be reduced by up to 80% on nine major crops.

* The EPA reported that in 1996 about 1 in 10 community tap water systems violated tap water treatment or contaminant standards.  It has worsened since 1996!

* In 1997, the Centers for Disease Control estimated that almost 1 million American children had lead in their blood at levels that far exceeded the “level of concern”.

* Of the 209 million tons of municipal solid waste generated in the U.S. in 1997, 27% or 56.4 million tons was packaging alone.  That same year we threw away 10.4 million tons or about 20 billion pounds of plastic packaging.

The facts are beyond dispute or debate anymore.  We, together must work to restore the integrity of the elements that sustain life - air, land, and water.  We, together must seek balance, sustainability and good stewardship of the Earth as essential ethical and moral imperatives of human society.  We must kick Bush in the ass, to wake up his soul, and help save the world from total destruction.  Vote Green!  Elect our most needed female President of the USA.  Begin to love the world as our God loves all creation.  God bless our worn, tired, and tattered planet!

God Bless the World!
