GOD’S EARTH
“Pleasant it looked, this newly created world. Along the entire length and breadth of the earth, our grandmother extended the green reflection of her covering,” Winnebago Indians.
We all stand at a critical moment in earth’s history. Humanity must choose between creative life or destructive greed and death. As world citizens first, we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms, we are all one human family and one earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. All of us must admit our responsibility towards all life on earth, especially our human contacts.
All of earth is our home, which we must protect. The resilience of the community of life and the well being of humanity depend upon preserving a healthy biosphere with all its ecological systems, a rich variety of plants and animals, fertile soils, pure waters, and clean air. The protection of earth’s vitality, diversity, and enormous beauty is a holy, sacred trust between our God and us. Many have broken this trust, including greedy and evil corporations, and corrupt, immoral political leaders. If you claim to love God, then your only option is to protect all life on earth.
The dominant patterns of production, nuclear weapons, and wasteful consumption are causing environmental devastation, the depletion of resources, and a massive extinction of species. The benefits of development are not shared equitably and the gap between rich and poor is widening rapidly here and around the world. Injustice, poverty, ignorance, and violent conflict are widespread, and the cause of massive great suffering. We can’t satisfy our moral obligations to the world’s poor by allowing only a few crumbs from the table of material abundance to fall upon the numerous nations and peoples of the world. We are all called to a much greater commitment of resources and energy (renewable) distributed equally and fairly towards all people in the world regardless if they can pay for it. God loves all of us, not just Americans. God bless the world!!!
We must form a global partnership to care for the earth and one another or risk the destruction of ourselves and the diversity of life. Even the richest people in the world, like Bill Gates and the “Wal-Mart Waltons” will not be safe, they too will perish with their filthy wealth. We must begin to realize that when basic needs have been met, human development is primarily about being more of a great human, and not about having more toys and evil money. Take a lesson from primary school – Share with everyone in class and in the world.
The worlds problems are our problems. If we don’t care and do not deal with these problems globally and locally, we will be dealing with death at our doorstep. If the rich continue their greed, they will deal with eternal death as well. We must as a society decide to live with a sense of universal responsibility, identifying ourselves as members of the global community. God bless the world, not God bless the USA! The spirit of human solidarity and kinships with all life is strengthened when we live with reverence for the mystery of being, gratitude for the gift of life, and humility regarding the human place in nature.
Together, we must affirm interdependent principles for a sustainable way of life as a common standard by which the conduct of all individuals, organizations, corporations, governments, transnational institutions, and individual civilians is to be guided and assessed. All the world’s resources are intended for all of us equally and fairly – period!!!
Personally for me the earth is my mother, father, friend and lover. The earth is part of my body, mind and soul, and I’ll never allow it to die at the hands of ruthless and greedy men. I consider myself a deeply religious man. The familiar colors and sounds of earth, the changing flow of the sky, the wild and blessed animals I encounter are all joined with my very own spirit in mystical communion with our God. The awesome powers of nature, the personal quest of my soul, the simple acts of daily life, the solidarity of the poor and oppressed are all religious, moral, and right with the world. I am sustained by the rhythmic renewal of earth calling out with tears; hold me, care for me, love me as one with all of you.
God Bless The World!
