Charity alone cannot pull poor people out of their poverty. To enable a poor, developing country to compete globally, there must also exist fairness and justice. Ultimately, developing countries, even the poorest are demanding for justice, to quench the thirst.
Justice here means:
· That illegitimate and unsustainable debt burdens be totally removed and forgiven.
· That there be fair trade policies, and not the present unfair, so-called “free” trade policies controlled only by a few wealthy corporations and nations, primarily the USA.
· That developing countries, including the dirt poorest ones have a major voice in the decisions of the global economic institutions which once again are dominated by the Western nations, especially the USA.
· That multinational corporations must work to better the social, economic and ecological conditions of the people, and not just immorally benefit themselves, stockholders, and the small elite of that nation, most likely the USA.
If these needed changes are not met, possible alternatives are horrible to envision. The misery, starvation, and immoral death of millions upon millions of people will take place throughout all the poorer countries. As governments become weakened under the immense pressure set forth by wealthy nations, basic needs of their people will go unmet, and provoke civil violence. One only has to walk through hundreds, thousands of areas of the world of great poverty and hopelessness, to realize how real and deep it goes. Armed violence, with anarchy or coups will become the normal fare, since young people with no hope for a future can be easily manipulated towards war.
The morally weak, like President Bush and Hitler prey on the weak and vulnerable around the world. As Christians, Jews, and Muslims, together we must work for true justice to save our earth and all of God’s loving and beautiful creations. Charity alone won’t cut it anymore, you must actively seek out justice for all of God’s glorious children.
God Bless the World!
